The National Home of Plain and Fancy
Celebrating 3,600 Performances Seen By Over 350,000 Patrons!
A New Yorker and his sophisticated girlfriend drive down around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to sell a piece of property. Here they meet Amish folk, whose convoluted English speech, clothes and habits haven't changed for centuries. The clash of cultures educates and entertains at the same time in this quaint musical comedy. It was the first Broadway show for both composer Albert Hague and author Joseph Stein who each went on, respectively, to win Tony awards for Redhead and Fiddler On The Roof. The Round Barn Theatre has become the national home of this 1955 Broadway hit. This 2017 production marks the 31st anniversary year that The Round Barn Theatre has produced Plain and Fancy making it one of the longest running shows of all time.
Northern Indiana's Premier Repertory Theatre:
Bringing you the Best of Broadway's Golden Age of Musical Theatre, The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres is created from a 1911 round barn that was dismantled and resurrected at the historic farmstead to become a professional repertory theater company.
Over one hundred Broadway musicals have been produced over the last two decades. The professional acting company is assembled from auditions across the country and is housed on the farm. The Round Barn Theatre is a full performing arts venue with its own scene shop and rehearsal space. It employs a full time technical staff including artistic director, stage manager, sound and wardrobe designers.
Coming of Age:
"Coming of Age" is a relative thing; we all experience it, and we’ve chosen 21 as the symbol of this part of life’s journey. Because The Round Barn Theatre has been presenting repertory theatre for 21 years, we’ve chosen to design our season around shows that are "Coming of Age" stories of love and discovery.
From the first date to marriage and beyond in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change to Elle Woods turning blonde into a legal eagle in Legally Blonde, to Katie Yoder and Peter Reber’s long sought love in Plain and Fancy. Throw in Sister Deloris finding her voice in the chapel choir in Sister Act, and Sarah Brown attempting to save sinners in our revival of Guys and Dolls, and you have a recipe for magic! The Mousetrap came of age when it opened in the West End of London in 1952, and has been running continuously ever since. It has by far the longest initial run of any play in history, with its 25,000th performance taking place in 2012. And for the holidays, Disney's The Little Mermaid's arises from the sea to find her true love on land.
The season runs from April 12th through December 31st and will include nearly 400 performances, typically in six week runs, making it the busiest stage in Indiana.
